Post Embedment for Pole Buildings
Our standard method employs a compacted dirt backfill with treated 2×6 uplift cleats nailed to the bottom of the post. The post is centered on a properly sized concrete footer to prevent sinking under the live and dead loads on the building.
The high wind option incorporates #4 rebar and a concrete collar for further uplift resistance in extreme conditions. See the illustration below for more details.
Embedment depth is typically 4′ or 48″ from grade to the top of the footer where the post stands. Proper post embedment depth is critical for resistance to high wind loads and also frost heave in colder climates.
